A product vision that needed proving
- A concept for distributed training pucks, with no working system behind it.
- Coaching drills with no machine-readable form to be expressed in.
- No evidence that battery powered units could stay coordinated at low latency.
- Investor conversations waiting on something real to demonstrate.
A working prototype, with the routine engine underneath it
- Pucks flash high intensity LEDs in selectable colours and detect physical interaction.
- One unit acts as conductor, orchestrating the rest over a local Wi-Fi based mesh network.
- Routines are structured — sequence, timing, randomisation and repeating blocks.
- Mobile device receives structured performance data for review and progression tracking.
What we built
Smart training pucks
High-intensity LEDs in selectable colours, with physical interaction detection in every unit.
Local device network
Wi-Fi mesh network connecting the units, with one acting as conductor for orchestration and timing.
Routine engine
Drills expressed as JSON: units, actions, timing, sleep periods, randomisation and repeating blocks.
Performance capture
Routine identifier, total elapsed time and per-instruction data, sent to a mobile device for review.
Results
- 6–10
- networked devices coordinated with low latency
- Delivered an investment-grade prototype that demonstrated the concept to coaches and stakeholders
- Proved reliable low-latency coordination between mesh connected battery-powered devices
- Built a JSON-based routine engine capable of expressing real coaching drills with sequencing, timing, randomisation, and repeat logic
- Captured and transmitted structured per-instruction performance data for analysis and progression tracking
- Client was able to move forward with investor conversations on the strength of the working prototype
“Working with Exine was a fantastic experience. As an early-stage startup, they listened closely to my specifications and fully understood the project before moving forward. Their attention to detail and willingness to take feedback ensured the embedded product they delivered was of exceptional quality. Thanks to their technical expertise and professionalism, I was able to confidently prove my concept. Rich and Aaron were communicative, proactive, and collaborative, making the process smooth and efficient. I highly recommend Exine for delivering top-notch embedded solutions.”
